Florence Line T2 at Redi

Running a line T2 trip to Peretola Aeroporto, GEST tram 2028 makes a stop at Redi. In the distance is Brunelleschi's Cattedrale Santa Maria del Fiore, whose dome was the largest in the world until the modern era. The tram stop here straddles the river Mugnone as it dives under the north approaches to Santa Maria Novella, Florence's main rail station.

Behind the fence, a massive infrastructure project is ongoing that will create an underground station for high-speed services. Currently, high-speed trains between northern and central/southern Italy need to reverse into and out of the Santa Maria Novella terminal, as it is stub-ended. The new bypass, stretching underground from Rifredi to Camp di Marte, two of Florence's "shoulder" stations, will significantly speed up Italo and Frecce services through the city. Being adjacent to the new station, the tram stop at Redi will become an important transfer point for local riders.
