The best laid plans of mice and men...
A group of what must have been close to a couple hundred people, myself included, had gathered at the US 287 overpass east of Tie Siding, Wyoming in eager anticipation of a great view of UP 4014 and its train descending Sherman Hill for a dash into Laramie. Alas, it was not to be, as the steamer took the other, more gently-graded route down the hill- I had operated on the assumption that it, like most (but clearly not all) westbound trains would use the older, steeper route down, in which case it would have filled this scene quite nicely. In any case, I'm still happy with what was supposed to be just a "test shot", and ended up being a train-less view of a timeless Western railroad landscape.
