Republic of Korea Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010
Designed by architectural firm mass studies, the South Korean pavilion at Shanghai Expo is an amalgamation of Hangeul letters (Korean alphabet) and space. The exterior wall is covered with 38,000 tiles painted with dancheong (traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden buildings) created by installation artist Ik-Joong Kang.
Within the pavilion there are areas where you can experience Korean “Hallyu” culture. The first floor, built with pillars instead of a door to depict an open area, will show a mini version of Seoul, the nation’s capital, to showcase an urban landscape of converging mountains, waters and a dense metropolitan area. The second floor will display Korea’s cultural, technological and soft power prowess, and the third, a roof garden for views of the Huangpu River and Shanghai’s skyline.

한국관의 주제는 ‘조화로운 도시, 다채로운 생활(Friendly City, Colorful Life)’이다.
한편 한국관은 한글 자모의 특성을 표현한 이미지로 구성돼 있다. 각 이미지는 발광다이오드(LED) 와 연결되어있어 밤에는 화려한 빛을 발하게 된다. 내부 공간은 터치 스크린과 터치 모니터를 통해 한국의 문화를 체험할 수 있도록 꾸몄다.
건물 1층은 누구나 접근할 수 있도록 사방이 개방된 공간으로 최대 650명 수용의 관람석이 있는 문화공연공간, 수경시설과 워터스크린, 한식 세계화 홍보관, 문화상품 판매코너 등이 갖추어진 관람객 대기공간이 마련됐다.
특히 1층 내부에 위치한 ‘코러스 시티’ 상연관에는 한류스타를 주인공으로 제작한 애니메이션이 상영돼 큰 인기몰이를 하고 있다. 이외 2층은 문화, 자연, 인간, 기술, 여수엑스포홍보관, 한중우호관으로 구성됐다.

展馆位于世博园区A片区。展馆外立面以立体化的韩文和五彩像素画装饰，以“沟通与融合”为元素，展现韩国风情。一层是按比例缩小的韩国首尔，通过影像展现 “我的城市”, 一层的绝大部分为开放空间，也就是说没有门，以充分体现韩国的开放性和包容性。；二层展示“我的生活”，用高科技手段演绎文化、科技、人性和自然；“我的梦想”展区展示未来技术，并预展2012年丽水世博会的美妙画卷。
