Dynamic Navigation Bar

Here are three examples of the Top/Dynamic Navigation Bar:

Top Row: This is how the navigation bar looked during Passive Mode. In order to maintain focus on the Passive Ads being played during this mode, the screen was kept uncluttered, with only the Now! Guide (Main Menu) button displayed.

Middle Row: Version One - Initially, the Dynamic Navigation Bar was designed to display the three most common top level searches as registered by user touches. The idea here was to provide relevant information with fewer touches - without having to go back to the Main Menu.

Bottom Row: Version Two - After several months of user observation, the Dynamic Menu Bar was changed to include "breadcrumb trail" navigation, allowing users to go backwards. There were two reasons for this decision - 1) By maintaining the top three most common searches as persistent menu options, the system created an unfair advantage, giving additional weight to these options and making it virtually impossible for the order to re-balance. 2) The original "breadcrumb trail" on the left side looked too cluttered and menu choices were too close together, making it difficult for users (especially women with long fingernails) to select the item the desired choice.

These photos are meant to be viewed in order - if you have come from somewhere else, please start at the beginning.
