Rose was not happy
I wasn't going to post any of this... I thought everything was getting better and the situation was diffusing. Then yesterday at midday I noticed Rose's neck was huge and swolen.
A week ago she was attacked by a pittbull in our studio building. The dog belongs to a visitor and showed no aggression to me. But Rose and Pico showed fear of him, he's a really big fella. And when Rose shows fear she barks. The owner had him leashed to the wall, but it was a long loose leash and he was able to challenge Rose when we tried to walk past. Rose's response is to bark "back off" to any dog who does this. He took it as an invitation to fight.
The studio building is Rose's turf so she responded. And being that the other dog is a Pittbull, he grabbed hold of her neck and threw her down.
I was very glad his owner was able to pull him off of her in time and she took him out of the building immediately and has since not brought him back in. I thought that was very considerate and I have never downtalked her or her dog.
But when I asked for her to help with the vet bill she got incredibly defensive. I am not going into it, but it was truely shocking that someone would behave that way, deny responsibility and take the "these things happen" attitude.
Rose had over 60 cc's drained and the vet said what happened is that the skin was separated from the connecting tissue and filled up with what he called syrum. We have antibiotics to prevent infection and the bandage is to help the skin readhere to the tissue and keep from filling up with fluid again.
I have nothing against pittbulls. They can be wonderful dogs. I just truely believe if you choose to own one you need to accept full responsiblility for what your dog is capable of and do all you can to prevent a situation from happening in the first place. Rules, boundaries and limitations are good for everyone, not just ill behaved dogs or humans for that matter.
