Rapture...

EXPLORE: May 3, 2011

Flaming Gorge Reservoir proved to be one of the most beautiful spots on our journey. The reservoir is fed by the Green River. My fishing friends tell me that this reservoir provides some of the best fishing opportunities anywhere. It is famous for its trophy lake trout. A good number of 30+ pound fish are caught each year. The Utah record went 51 lb 8 oz, and there may yet be a bigger one swimming in the reservoir. Fishing is also very good for rainbows, brown trout, kokanee salmon and the colors were superb.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a reservoir in Wyoming and Utah, on the Green River, created by Flaming Gorge Dam. Construction on the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1964. The reservoir stores 3,788,900 acre feet of water.

The reservoir is mainly in southwest Wyoming and partially in northeastern Utah. The northern tip of the reservoir is just 10 miles southeast of Green River, Wyoming, 14 mi southwest of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and 43 miles north of Vernal, Utah. The lake straddles the Utah-Wyoming border.
