The helmet tells us that the soldier belonged to one of the first four cavalry regiments of the Italian army that is to say 1st Cavalry Regiment “Nizza”, 2nd Cavalry Regiment “Piemonte Reale”, 3rd Cavalry Regiment “Savoia” and 4th Cavalry Regiment “Genova”. All the cavalrymen who belonged to this four regiments wore the same uniform (only colours were different) and a helmet with a cross (one of the symbols of the House of Savoy).
