This little steamed guy was last years entry for the Fire Mountain polymer clay competition. He was a finalist! and they took a picture of someone wearing him, so Im excited that he might be featured in a catalog in the future.
Sadly he broke multiple times. The last time I had them return him in pieces so I could see what was going on. He is 100% Kato brand polymer clay then all the other bits. I confess I only ever use Kato for this competition. I do not like how it smells and I ALWAYS have breakage issues. And its not I dont cure this stuff right. I've been working with polymer clay for 20+ years, and Kato has been 100% inconsistent for me. Ok rant aside, Im pretty sure he broke because of the translucent clay not curing properly. He ONLY snapped in areas of translucent clay. All those lovely tentacles up front have broken. Im going to super glue him back together, and Im going to cure him more, just in case.
And I wont be working with the translucent, it just isnt strong and consistent enough for this kind of work.
And currently I am plotting my next piece for this year's competition
