Liberton: Protein centre (now demolished)
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service Protein Fractionation Centre, Liberton, Edinburgh, opened in 1974. The original buildings were designed by Alan Jamieson. Now demolished.
The facility has been relocated to Riccarton (next to Heriot Watt University).
APRIL 2023 UPDATE: The City of Edinburgh Council has bought the Liberton Hospital site from NHS Lothian. The site is approximately 6.5 hectares. The aim is to deliver a mixed-use development with around 380 homes, about half affordable homes, and provide specialist support for older people or those with accessibility needs. [April 2023]
