Restoring the Internet...

I don't know what kind of luck you have had, but this is my third router since I got a cable modem. They seem to fail every couple of years. I have had both Linksys and Netgear, so it really does not seem to matter what kind one buys.

My issues always seem to start with websites not being found and when I do a refresh on a site I was just at, it cannot be found. Another refresh sometimes works while sometimes multiple refreshes or even starting IE over again. If I put off getting a new one, the internet eventually becomes unavailable at all. I did that last time.

For me, I guess the best router is the cheapest one at the moment of need. At the rate they fail, I am not going to spend the extra to get a fancy one. And I guess $40-$50 for 2-4 years service isn't too bad, so I cannot say any of the companies have bad stuff.

The sales clerk at the Staples where I got this one had some comments that made sense. He said these things have no active cooling inside and if they are used a lot they get too hot and fail about the rate I am experiencing. From what I see, these things don't even have much venting.

Since my last one has not gone completely belly-up, I am saving it in case this new one fails in a worse manner before I get to the store. After all, some refreshing is better than no Internet at all.
