Giovanni Francesco Brignole-Sale II, Doge of Genoa and Ambassador to France. Also King of Corsica. (1695-1760, portrait from 1738.)
The Portrait is by Hyacinth Rigaud (1659-1743)
After Genoa obtained recognition as the "ruler" of Corsica, its Doges became to call themselves Kings of that island. This provided them with higher status in diplomatic representation than the non-regal title of Doge.
