Ranch with View, Grand Teton NP 2011

(1 in a multiple picture album)

I'm sure life on this ranch is not as idyllic as it looks, but the place still qualifies as one of the prettiest spots in America. The peaks of the Grand Teton rise over the forest behind the buildings. I would imagine the the grazing horse sees a lot of moose, elk and other wildlife sharing his grass.

The tallest crag is Grand Teton for which the park is names. All the peaks together make up the Teton range.

Folks may find it interesting to know that the range was named by lonely French trappers who were missing a woman. The peaks reminded them a a woman's breast. They called the mountains “Les Trois Tetons,” or “The Three Breasts.” The Grand Teton—the tallest of the three—literally means “the big tit," pardon my French.
