boots on the ground
First day back in uniform after three years of schooling. Spent the day doing the paper chase around post known as "inprocessing". I was misassigned to one unit and changed to another by mid-afternoon, and had to start the chase partially over again. Feet were tired by the end of it, but in the evening we met up with old friends from a prior assignment we hadn't seen in five years. P. had been an Army psychologist and deployed twice during that period, including a tour supporting operations at Abu Grahb after the scandal broke. Now he works as a civilian for the DOD working with soldiers with PTSD and doing research on how to prevent it. A true hero and healer.
Unfortunately we rolled back in to the hotel room at about 11:45 (after having been lost in San Antonio for over an hour) and realized I hadn't taken a picture yet. So I grabbed my crappy cell phone cam and snapped this shot of my boots on the ground. The shot was grainy and poor anyway, so I decided to mess with it. I used "high pass" filter, black and white with a heavy dose of contrast, and added back some yellow tint with the "color variations" tool. There are so many cool things to shoot here in SA that I hope I get a chance to start doing it soon.
