Delhi has been a centre of Jain Religion from ancient times & the Digamber Jain Temple opposite the Red Fort is one of the oldest constructed in 1658.This Temple also known as `Lal Mandir`is on the Netaji Subhash Marg in Chandni chowk.Since its construction it has undergone many alterations.The stone pillars & ceiling looks very beautiful with paintings & carvings. Its architecture is superb and you can see artistic carvings in the stone on pillars and arches. The ceiling of the main temple at the first floor is simply superb with exquisite paintings. Within the compound of this temple is a charity bird hospital where sick birds are treated in the Jain spirit of love for all life, non-violence and help to every form of life.
