Hoverfly - Chrysotoxum vernale female
A real rarity on the UK mainland and only the 2nd record for Jersey (i was lucky enough to have the first one last year) ... and this one was on a different site from last years record so we probably have a few around which maybe in the past have been mistaken for C. festivum which is very similar.
The black basal fifth of the front and mid femora and the almost straight bars on tergites 3 and 4 IDs it as vernale ... festivum have completely yellow femora (or very narrowly black at base of front femur) and clearly bent bars on tergites 3 and 4)
