Designing-in danger

THIS is the *end* of the short cycle lane.

 

It shows the earlier bike lane of a few inches in width that is partly scrubbed out.

 

The initial view of Haringey Council was, that all that was required was a few inches worth around a blind corner. Obviously something was missing (any balance or intelligence). This is the default, petrol-head view in the absence of, or prior to, external intervention.

 

The improved lane—that is nearly twice the width—features Armadillos. It still looks and feels hazardous, but less so than other parts of this remarkable road.
