Citrus Heights FD -- Squad 23
Photo by Chuck Madderom, from my collection (scanned), circa the mid/late-1980's.
The Citrus Heights Fire District ran this 1984 or 1985 Ford C-Series/Beck rescue-salvage-lighting truck from Station 23 in Citrus Heights, California. It was one of a pair, the other running initially as Squad 27 and then as Squad 28 (and which was ALS-equipped and had a paramedic or an EMT II assigned).
Prior to the 1989 merger with the Rancho Cordova Fire Protection District (Sacramento County Fire) and for a couple of years after, typical staffing of the squad consisted of a captain and an engineer. In 1991, it was paired with newly-established Truck 23 (a Sutphen 75-foot aerial quint) and ran as a part of a two-piece truck company with four personnel.
Today, this is the last remaining former Citrus Heights FD apparatus still in service with successor Sacramento Metropolitan Fire, having been equipped with a dry-chemical system for aircraft emergencies at McClellan Field. It is now known as RAMP 114.
