Two Fallen Flags, One Trailer
I couldn't pass this up. I spotted this Union Pacific Railroad-owned trailer on UP property in Elmira, California, along the (former Southern Pacific) "Cal-P" Line from Sacramento to the SF Bay Area. Perhaps the Western Pacific took possession of the trailer after the Rock Island folded (?). It says "Rock Island Motor Transit" underneath the Western Pacific Transport logo. UP is currently using the trailer for maintenance of way purposes. It became UP property when UP took over the WP in 1982.
UPDATE: WPTZ 283002-283036 were former Rock Island Motor Transit trailers leased from Availco, circa 1979 (from WESTERN PACIFIC GUIDE TO FREIGHT AND PASSENGER EQUIPMENT, by Jim Eager. Morning Sun Books).
