Pack Set
This is my work radio. I have been carrying this Amtrak-issued Motorola HT1250 for over ten years. I have gone through several batteries during that time but the radio itself has held up well.
My previous pack set was a well-used GE/Ericsson MPA, known affectionately as a "brick" or "wheel chock." They were big, rugged, and could take a lot of abuse. The last of them were apparently retired by Amtrak when narrowbanding was mandated.
I am not sure why handheld radios are called "pack sets" on the railroad.
