Hook lighthouse 2a

One of the oldest working lighthouses in Europe at around 800years old. Built under the supervision of William Marshall, son in law of Strongbow and Aoife, it replaced an informal beacon which the monks there had set up and maintained previously. Lies across the estuary from Dunmore East and Passage East. The location is reputedly partly responsible for the expression 'by Hook or by Crook', Crooke is across the water near Passage East.
