Wrath of the Valar

While a captive of King Ar-Pharazôn of Númenor, Sauron shows himself to the Men there as a fair and wise councilor and is eventually freed to roam the island. Not long after, he begins to plant seeds of corruption in their hearts and deceives them into worshiping his master Morgoth as well as cursing the Valar for denying them immortality like the Elves. Eventually, Sauron builds up a mighty domed temple on which he makes burned human sacrifices to Morgoth. As a warning, the Valar send violent storms to Númenor with clouds shaped as eagles, striking the evil temple with lightning and shattering its dome. In that hour Sauron was struck but remained unharmed, and the Men saw him as a god.
