Malham Tarn in Mist

This past Sunday morning I had planned on a trip over to Cumbria but, on a hunch, I decided to head up to Malham Tarn in hopes that the cold temperatures would make for a calm, mist-shrouded tarn. I was met with what I consider to be absolutely sublime conditions. There was just enough break in the fog bank to allow for some beautiful, subtle color from the sky that was matched in the reflection from the mirror-like surface of the tarn. Some might have been tempted to pump up the color a bit but I honestly find the subtlety of hues to be more powerful. I especially enjoy the faint hints of magenta and pink along the edges of the mist from the rising sun. For me this scene is the perfect connotation of everything peaceful and serene that I derive from landscape photography.

Cheers!
