Princess Tree
The glorious princess tree (Paulownia) at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. This tree optimizes its reproductive effort by producing thousands of flowers which in turn produce millions of seeds. Paulownia is not a shy and retiring species. In fact, this native of China is considered a potentially invasive species by the Plant Conservation Alliance. The large size of this tree may make it inappropriate for urban landscapes, but its purple flowers on a huge, irregularly branching tree make a striking statement.
