Amaryllis

A combination of light, temperature, and moisture conditions encourage transformation of the Amaryllis bud from dormancy into a flower. The plant makes "decisions" that force the opening of the bud, based on data that arrives from the external environment. Many but not all of the plant's cells are involved in this decision-making, but once they have responded, a series of activities are put into play that result in the opening of this flower.
