Utilizing plant form

This shady, gently undulating path lined with river stones is a good xeriscape in my opinion. The trees are utilized for shade and as a border, creating the feeling of a quiet retreat. The pruned "suckers" at the base of the trees are a creative expression that uses plant form in a clever way. The landscaper gets more "bang for the buck" in terms of irrigation, by encouraging the growth of these "suckers" that mimic shrubs.

By observing lots of plants and the way they grow, we can train ourselves to think about creative ways to utilize them in our landscapes.
