Speedwell

Speedwell (Veronica) is a sweet groundcover that blooms for a couple of weeks in mid-May. I had mine growing initially with lily of the valley, where the two made a handsome pair. My speedwell subsequently migrated to a sunnier spot, perhaps crowded out by the lily of the valley as well. Once it's finished blooming speedwell (only a few inches tall) will retreat or disappear for the rest of the season, so it's a good idea to plant something with it. It's a spreader, but not aggressive, at least in my garden.
