Leaf fascicles
The Ginkgo is an ancient gymnosperm, and one bit of evidence is that its leaves emerge in bundles (fascicles) like other gymnosperms. Next time you look at a pine tree take a look at the point where the needles attach to the stem and you'll see what I mean. Fasciculate leaves is a homologous trait of gymnosperms, something that they inherited from a common ancestor that lived millions of years ago.
