After melting in Ohio last week, I'm back home and was finally able to open this figure. No surprises aesthetically - people generally giggle at this figure, or they're disappointed at the half ass use of human legs. There was such potential for this set, but ultimately at best it's average like most of the gimmicky TBLeague sets..
I honestly wasn't paying much attention to the legs when it was preorder time, but i was hoping that this would actually be some fancy body that would actually have some sort of twisting/lateral articulation for the "horse body". But, between my in hand research and some brave souls on some Phicen boards, it's come to my attention that the section in question is really just the lower half of the main body body given only articulation at the legs and effectively fastened to the main body by the thing the saddle is is on.
I guess I should have known this would happen as this figure does come in just human form. To add insult to injury, there's no manual or anything that officially announced you could play with this figure in both modes. At the end of the day, it's just the regular body with a fancy add on. The fact that they're human jointed legs just makes things worse. The cherry on top is the fact that he horse tail looks pretty crude and just connects to the rear via a magnet.
If if makes one feel slightly better, the hoof is ball jointed, allowing for more stability. Of course, at best you can do is three legged poses with out a stand, as the joints are sadly too weak to support any two legged poses, which honestly would have made this a lot more fun to photograph, rather than finding variations of standing poses. Furthermore, the wrist joints are too weak to support the incredibly heavy die cast metal lance the figure comes with.
In addition, you get a shield, a helmet, some hands, and this weird tarp/cover thing for the rear of the body, which I'll never use as it looks very unwieldly even in the promo photos. The shield is both well designed and stupidly designed. One of the straps is connected by a magnet so you can pop that sucker off and get it on the forearm quite easily. The issue is the smaller strap is permanent, applied kind of crookedly. Furthermore, it honestly feels like they just grabbed whatever hands went with the human version of this and included them, without including hands that would allow for better interaction with the Lance.
Paint work looks to be alright. There's some areas which are kind of messy, but at the same time I cannot be completely sure that they weren't going for some sort of weathered effect. So I'll stick with "it's OK". What isn't OK is the fact the body had some surface peeling straight out of the box. I feel that some of the armour, especially the forearm guard on the right arm, should have had bigger looks so it fit on the forearm better (it has a sleeve of some sort).
Of course, there's always a sliver lining. Through much effort, I did manage to get a centaur to twerk.
