To say that The Marvels was disliked by many people is an understatement - people HATED it. i watched it and while it certainly wasn't great, it wasn't terrible to me.. just really stupid.

Being a female led project I'm naturally interested in the character goods, and sure enough, S.H. Figuarts released a Captain Marvel. Sadly, Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau never materialized, probably due to the negative press this movie got.

Anyway, I guess you can say that this figure had more accessories than any of the previous releases. Two head sculpts, two sets of energy effects, and Jones the... cat thing.. accompany a set of hands.

As you can see from the group pics, NONE of the Captain Marvel figures have an accurate face, with things getting worse I think with this latest release. About the only positive I can say from this aspect is that they at least got the hair closer, and the Binary mode sculpt at least looks more intense than previous efforts.

For likeness, at this scale you're still going for the Mafex Endgame version for accuracy.

The small energy effects I believe we saw in the Endgame version, but the actual energy blasts should be new. I don't think Jones was in any of the previous releases, and I'm too lazy to check.

When it comes to Articulation, I certainly wouldn't say it's anthing outstanding, or even that different compared to previous releases of the character, especially since it doesn't have a sash like the Endgame version. With a bit of imagination and brute force, you can pull off a decent number of poses though the hair will get in the way of posing.

On a related note, sadly this new version doesn't seem to feature as much Paint as the previous versions. People I've spoken to were disappointed in the lame suit compared to previous efforts, so it's only natural that the figure disappoints me in some way. Overall, it seems like its base plastic with some painted accents here and there (naturally the faces are painted) whereas previous version seem to have paint even on the suit itself. Maybe there's some top coat? I dunno.

Having said that, it's this lack of observable finish that basically said to me I might as well see how far I can push the articulation.

At least from a Build Quality perspective, things are pretty consistent. No real complaints with regards to finishes or joints, and the effects parts connect with the closed fists nicely.
