So... new year, new line. Welcome to Transfomers Legacy... EVOLUTION. Because it's now cool to make old things evolved.
I dunno.
There's actually not a whole lot I've seen from this line up that particularly thrills me, but hey only time will tell. I do know I want that Commander Armada Prime, and I'm waiting for all the Dinobots to be gathered before I photograph them.
Officially, first up for me would be Metalhawk, the pretty much unknown leader of the Pretenders (unknown out in Hasbro land)until he was reintroduced in the Titans Return lineup. I believe there was a little Titan Master figure, as well as a repainted/repurposed figure in one of the gift sets at the time.
This time around, Metalhawk (no Pretender is a repurposed Voyager Cyclonus figure, which from my understanding was a pretty solid toy.
Metalhawk doesn't "Wow" me, but at the same time it doesn't disappoint, except for the lack of paint which given that they all suffer from this, isn't even a thing anymore. There's some silver and red on the knees, splash of red on the chest as well as the tailfins of the jet mode and jet canopy, and of course the silver and blue on the face. Other than that it's pretty much base plastic colours, which is unfortunate as the gold plastic really doesn't look all that great.
The overall look seems to be a good interpretation of the G1 cartoon look, with the major deviation being the arms and attached wings. Accessories are his sword and a pair of guns that can be merged into one gun, as well as his trademark sword. No idea what this "Evo-Fusion" thing is, though.
Articulation is decent, again with the major points of articulation, including a waist. Shoulders are lacking that butterfly joint, which I typically wouldn't expect in a mainline figure anyway.
Build quality is, pleasantly, pretty much flawless. No loose joints, poorly fitting parts, bad finishes. Everything functions and holds as it should, as well as tabs together and slots up properly.
Transformation into jet mode is straight forward, the resulting form isn't bad. This is perhaps the only other real beef I have with this figure. Due to the reuse of Cyclonus, the vehicle mode has the same proportions of said character, which isn'ta problem when the front end of your jet mode is all nosecone. Here, they had to squeeze the entire cockpit area of the jet mode into what was just the tip of Cyclonus, and it just looks so squished. Weapons can attach to the vehicle mode as show, and as one would think, yes, the sword looks ridiculous.
