The light at the end of the catch up tunnel, as it were.

Back in June '18, I had heard that some convention exclusives were showing up at Fan Expo. With a burning desire to get them, I did something that I haven't done in about 9 years.. actually preorder convention tickets. I was stoked about owning something that would only be available if you were dumb enough to pay admission, go through line up upon line up, AND pay jacked up prices for.

I was gonna get some exclusive merch!

So with that mindset, I eagerly conducted a Kijiji transaction that netted me this set, unboxed, mind you, for $50.

What exactly is this thing?

Well, in 2017, the convention exclusive Transformer released by Hasbro was this black and gold recolour of the Powermaster Optimus Prime toy from the Titans Return line which, for whatever reason, was also co-branded by Primative Skateboarding.

Now the actual toy itself wasn't perfect, but I am a fan of the G1 design so I double dipped into the modern remake, despite how stupid the co-branding was (for the record, I've technically triple dipped as I have the Takara remold Super Ginrai). My reasoning was that it did cost me less than the original toy and was technically harder to buy.

The toy feels pretty flimsy in my man hands, as did the original release of the toy, and quite franky, every single Deluxe and higher sized toy since the tail end of the the Generations line. The actual colour scheme itself wasn't too bad, predominately being black coloured plastic with the occasional gold or silver accent, and does remind me quite a bit of the black recolours of Sentai mecha, though you'd think they could spare some paint and colour the rims.

I was actually most impressed (not a note of sarcasm, truly) at how crisp and clear the Primitive logo was, regardless of how small the actual label was. I mean, the stuff is legible, unlike that garbled mess of scribbles that graces the Power of the Primes Elita-1 figue.

Transformation remain the same as the original toy, turning into a truck with trailer that is a retool of the Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus figure, and a base that is... just kind of there, I guess.

Besides a new colour scheme, this particular figure sports a Titan Master with a new skateboarding inspired name, Shreddimus Maximus. Sadly the one I bought seemed to be an amputee, but I attribute that to an EXTREME boarding accident. He's also EXTREMELY underpainted,

The other thing that this set adds to the toy is what is very, very, VERY loosely called a railgun, which is the combined form of a jumble of parts that serves as a set of ramps and railing for Shreddimus Maximus to pull EXTREME tricks on.

Not excited?!?! Can't blame you... this joint venture is pretty weak on the hype-o-meter, the railgun looks pretty bad, and for a convention exclusive figure that is selling at premium pricing, the actual number of paint apps on secondary areas is pretty much retail level low, if not worse.

Still, the figure looks sharp in robot mode, so if that's all you ever display it in you should be fine.

I can't say I'll never get another Hasbro convention Transformer exclusive, but clearly if I ever actually spend convention prices for it, I will need to do some research ahead of time to make sure it's actually worth my money.

Well that brings this write up to an end - I think it's time to finally tackle the mound of toys waiting to be freed from their prisons.
