100km/h Bora Wind Snowstorm at the Deserted Railway Station of Podgorje (pod Slavnikom) Village, 487m a.s.l.; Coastal Karst, Primorska, Slovenija
19-January-2024
Unlike the United States, here this winter passes very boring, mild and quiet, with the exception of a few brief episodes like the one in the photo, due to an influx of colder air from central Europe which activated Bora/Burja wind and contrasting precipitation.
In reality it is the wind at 100km/h (on average!) that does almost everything, the precipitation was weak and the snowfall cover very modest due to the fact that despite a temperature below the freezing point, the snowflakes were mixed with freezing rain and sleet, due to unmixed Mediterranean mild air at altitude.
This made the snow mixed with black ice and the white was less white than pure snow, with a color towards gray due to the partial transparency of the gelicide.
