A "Pedestal Cloud" Forms Right Above the Velebit Channel where the Cold Bora, Flowing from the Interior and the Rising Humid Air of the Kvarner Area Meet; Gorski Kotar-Velebit Coastal Side, Hrvatska

This cloud formation corresponds to a "Gust Front" due to the cold wind from the interior which forcibly raises the milder and more humid air it encounters towards the sea (on the border), generating a chain of cumulonimbus clouds, one of which has a sort of pedestal base, which in turn generate heavy snow showers from the direction of the wind (N/E, left of the photo) towards the opposite direction (right).
The cold air has thus overcome the dinaric chains creating new contrasts over the whole area, instead of dissolving immediately, but the sea is still too fresh and air too dry to give enough energy to extend precipitations to the whole area and the dissolution will take place shortly with the snowfalls which will remain confined to the Velebit chain (more humid) as regards the coastal slopes, except for the gully-gate of Senj where the bora dragged snow grains and a few drops of rain right up to the coast.
