On humid and very cold nights (especially in the lower air layers), the microscopic Ice Crystals, always present in the water vapor contained in the freezing air, become visible even by the human eye, as, with very low temperatures and high umidity, they tend to aggregate forming crystals agglomerates (Diamond Dust) that float in the air, lightly reducing visibility.
The Bloke plateau, located between the municipalities of Cerknica, Loška Dolina and Loško Polje, represents the easternmost part of the karst plateau and therefore the most remote corner of the karst region widely understood, but, being it a thin band, this area is located just 60 linear km from Trieste.
It is an area with a continental microclimate, with absolute minimum temperatures close to -30°C and reached from December to March, without forgetting the super-record of April 7, 2021, when the capital of the Bloke, Nova Vas, reached -21° C, updating the absolute minimum for April throughout Slovenia, including high-altitude stations.
Among other things, that value was lower than the minimums that occurred in winter (2020-2021) stopped at-19°C.
