When the "Cauliflower" Top of a Cumulonimbus Calvus Fades, Capilarizing, into Cumulonimbus Capillatus, at Its Base, Precipitation is Certain; Črnotiče Karst Dorsal, Primorska, Slovenska Čičarija
09-september-2022
Compared to the sharpness of the cups that form the CB calvus, here, night shot with fullmoonlight, you can see the tops that crumble into ice crystals tufts and frays (CB capillatus phase) moved easily by the altitude strong Southwestern winds and this is a sure sign of precipitation inside the cloud, often in form of thunderstorm.
The photo is taken at night with quite short exposure times thanks to the light of the full moon that illuminated, almost daytime, this line of thunderstorm clouds (Squall Line), which exploit the nocturnal release of heat by the Gulf of Trieste, in a weather phase progressively more unstable and rainy in "my" area.
We breathe a sigh of relief!
