Mount Duranno (2652m a.s.l.) from Upper Zemola Valley; Dolomites of Friuli, Erto e Casso, Pordenone, Italia

20-november-2021: after the snowfalls at the beginning of November, the persistent anticyclone melted almost all the fallen snow, that in the Friulian Dolomites was also less abundant than in other areas.

This decidedly wild area, free from mass tourism and ski facilities, is, for these reasons, certainly very fascinating with beautiful and imposing mountains.

The nivology of the area is overall not particularly marked.

The mild air from the Adriatic easily penetrates these areas rather close to the Friuli-Venetian Plain and with various orographic gates that the air uses, unlike man (the area has few accessible roads).

On the other hand, it is an area sheltered from cold currents and with many sunny days, especially in winter.

Precipitation is concentrated in autumn and with mild flows from the South-East, therefore with generally high snow levels, on average higher than almost all the other Alpine areas in the sector, while the cold fronts pass quickly and have less impact than the Julian Alps and the Dinarides.

Duranno is the second highest peak in the "Left Piave Dolomites", after mount "Cima dei Preti" (2706m a.s.l.) and is well exposed to the sun
