Small Pond, Bass Creek in the Bitterroot Mountains, Montana
About 1.5 miles from the Bass Creek trailhead is a small pond that looks like a beaver pond, but it's man-made. This was taken on a windy day in August, 2008. The only snake I've ever seen in Montana was on this trail in 1992. It was a glass boa, and my sister didn't like it. There are no bass native to western Montana, and so I surmise that the creek was named for an early white settler.
