Princess Kaiulani

A statue of princess Kaiulani close to the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotel in Waikiki, Oahu. Victoria Kaʻiulani Kalaninuiahilapalapa Kawēkiu i Lunalilo Cleghorn (1875–1899) was heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and held the title of crown princess. She died at the age of 23. Kaiulani with her rebel spirit defied foreign occupation, and served as a spiritual symbol of resistance, however futile, for her Indigenous people.
