Portrait of the artist as an absinthe drinker

I've only had absinthe a few times actually, but I can see how one could become addicted to it.

The first time I, almost, had it was over 50 years ago at The Old Absinthe House, on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, -but as it was then illegal in the US, they served Legendre Herbsaint instead. The thing I remember most from that evening is a jazz piano player that I swear was playing the cracks between the keys as I have never ever heard such fine sounds come out of an upright before or since!

5 or 6 years ago down in Mexico, we found a nice outdoor bar in a plaza that served absinthe. The bartender took a liking to us and when we'd get ready to leave, he's serve us an absinthe or tequila on the house. As I noted above, it could, easily, get to be a habit.

I needed a break from watercolors and my 3 color palette experiments, hence this quick multimedium sketch; Faber Castell marker, Crayola extreme colors crayons and colored pencils on Bee's 'Bogus Rough Sketch' paper, 9 by 18 inches.
