The Reason Why
I am occasionally asked why I like hill walking so much. After all, as people point out to me, you can get very cold, very wet, very tired and very lost. And there is always a degree of risk involved.
All this is true.
I have been very cold, very wet, very tired and very lost.
But I still love it.
I love the quiet satisfaction of getting from A to B with nothing more than a map and compass.
I love the fresh air.
I love the quietness.
I love seeing the wildlife.
I love the hunger that a day on the hills brings, and the fact that the food tastes so much better.
I love the thirst that a long walk brings and there’s nothing better than to sit in a nice warm pub, with a pint of good beer and let the ache of tiredness waft over me.
But most of all, I love it because I get to see scenery like this.
