my custom cut titanium brake shims for my MX5 NC, these titanium shims are a thermal barrier between the brake pads and the brake pistons, thus reducing the chance of heat transfer between the brake pads to the brake pistons, which in turn will over heat the brake fluid.
As a secondary benefit, they also help protect the rubber dust shields on the brake pistons and also I've found that these shims change the pedal feel too, the pedals feel firmer as I'm guessing they previously we pressing on the softer mild steel brake shims.
