Polar Bear and Aurora Lightbox

Polar Bear and Aurora Lightbox'

14.5" x 11" x 1.5" (36.8 cm x 27.9 cm x 3.8 cm)

paper, block prints, wood box, self-flashing fast rgb LEDs, diffuse slow fade rgb LEDs, light gels, Japanese washi, Thai handmade paper, switch, and 9V battery, nails, bookboard, brads, staples, glue, wire

This one of a kind artwork combines my polar bear and aurora, hand carved, hand-printed linocut with multicolour, colour changing LEDs, and custom designed light filters to create a magical light box. When switched off, the linocut stands on its own as an artwork, framed in a box covered with turquoise-blue, handmade Thai paper. When you flick the switch, the aurora, the Northern Lights, lit up, and start to produce every-changing, mesmerizing patterns of colour, with slow and faster flashing areas. The patterns are stocastic, meaning they are non-deterministic and unpredictable by definition.
