a cosmogram, or depiction of the universe both physical and spiritual, painted on the wall at Trongsa dzong
Mount Meru (Sumeru), the axis mundi, is surrounded by seven seas and seven walls of mountains. Past these one reaches a vast outer sea which forms the surface of the visible universe, in which solid worlds appear as small islands in four seas or "continents". The known world is located in the south on an island called Jambudvipa.
