A writer, William Burroughs, said in an interview, "I've recently done a lot of experiments with SCRAPBOOKS. ... I'll be walking down the street and I'll suddenly see a scene and I'll PHOTOGRAPH IT and put it in a scrapbook." He includes in his scrapbook not just the photograph but WHAT HE WAS THINKING ABOUT at the moment he saw the SCENE, what he was thinking about WHILE HE TOOK THE PHOTO, what MEMORIES the scene brought into his mind when he saw it, and he even includes what he had been READING just BEFORE HE SAW the scene, and what WORDS he wrote right after photographing the IMAGE. /// A TOTAL OBSERVATION OF LIFE AS IT EXISTS... MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS OF INPUT.

 

HE CALLS ALL OF THIS SCRAP-BOOKING "time travel" , taking ALL of the scraps of information SURROUNDING the photograph "to see how completely I can project myself back to that ONE POINT IN TIME."
