Hunters point, Radioactive

This was the last place i passed that was not radioactive. Hunters point was the base for the nations nuclear home defense research. It is now a superfund site with an intensive cleanup in progress. This place is completely insane, the entire perimeter is surrounded by sprinklers to keep the radioactive dust down, and there are water trucks that do nothing but drive around all day shooting thirty foot jets of water in every direction, as i rode through what was left of the streets i would constantly encounter these water trucks, they would stop the blast just long enough to let me pass. at one point I came across a check point where there was a table full of geiger cointers. the heavy equipment operators use them to sweep their tractors for radioactive material of an unnaceptably high level and then clean it off, ensuring that the city is not contaminated. there are tractors everywhere moving piles of rubble seperating materials and demolishing unsalvagable buildings. there are also hundreds of car sized sealed drums marked radioactive waste. I treated every basin I could find and talked to as many people as possible. this is without a doubt one of the coolest things i have seen on this job.
