Sphinx moth on a thistle. Chiricahua Mountains in SE Arizona, at about 8000 feet. Hovering is a good strategy to evade the thorns and get at the flowers. I wonder how the proboscis is so well controlled so it can move easily to hundreds of locations in a single flowerhead.
