Can't fight the wind--detail

The founding entry in a "what am I looking at?" album, to be developed. This is a close-up of the base of a large granite boulder, also shown in another shot. The rock is gradually being eroded by wind and wind-blown gravel. Anyone have an idea what the dark gray inclusions might be?
