Atlantean, bowling through Southwalian countryside.

I think it was the late Tony Peart, bus enthusiast, dedcated preservationist and wordsmith who once wrote in an article of the 'hollow moan of the Atlantean' ... well, that's just what was going on here as this example approached across the moors. The Atlantean's other distinguishing sound effect was that of it's squealing brakes, but as this example had no reason to stop, I couldn't comment on that.

PKG 373H had been new to Western Welsh circa 1970, it's attractive and functional bodywork was by Northern Counties. Unusually for an Atlantean it is to genuine low height spec. being a PDR1/3 chassis type which was discontinued shortly afterwards when Leyland channelled low height demand towards the now 'in house' Daimler Fleetline. (there being no low height variant of the AN68 Atlantean replacement for the PDR1 type). According to BLOTW, 373's chassis was built as part of a small batch which mingled Western Welsh's chassis with those of Yorkshire Traction.

I'll have to leave it up to those with local knowledge to suggest where I might have taken this shot ... not much to go on really!
