Fleetline brochure cover

Thanks to a very good friend, I had several Daimler brochures donated a few days ago. Whilst I already have a later one, I've not seen this very early example before.

Now I'm not someone who needs to be convinced of the Fleetline's mechanical or design merits. but to pitch it for Motorway work would require something of a leap of faith. The fastest ones I've ever driven (with higher speed angle drive) would top out at about 50mph, so hardly a 'Gay Hostess' Atlantean. Maybe Daimler had something else up their sleeves . . . Three final drive ratios are quoted in the brochure, but no mention of what they translate to in terms of top speed.

Anyway, you've got to love 'artists' impressions of the day. The Motorway illustration shows either a half size Fleetline or twice full sized Citroen DS being overtaken. One can only wonder whether these illustrators were occssionally partial to hallucinogenic substances prevalent in the era.
