'Headlight' magazine cover.
Back in our youth, two or three of us buddies would go after school and just pass the time of day at Manley's 'Lodge Cafe' at Talke on the A34. We'd watch the comings and goings at 'tea time' at what was one of the last of a whole string of transport cafes within a ten mile stretch of road north of Newcastle under Lyme.
Other than for watching lorries, we befriended several drivers who kept us in a supply of things like 'Headlight' magazines, as well as allowing us to 'cab' their vehicles at times. Most memorable of the 'cabbings' was a very nice Castrol AEC MkV Mammoth Major (driven almost by my namesake, Martin) and a Wynns Scammell Contractor, the crew of which took us a few hundred yards down the road as they departed.
This 1975 edition of Headlight, with a very good looking Bedford TM on the cover, would have been one such 'donation'.
